第三节 研究的意义、目标、方法
德米特里诗学研究具有重要的价值和意义。他不仅传承柏拉图和逍遥派理论，而且开创和发展了如信笺、语篇、语效、辞格、形式、风格、文体、写作甚至教育等理论，为后来学科的发展奠定了理论基础。学术上，对其诗学研究是古典诗学重要部分，古典学术国际化使然。对其诗学研究有助于解决诸如文体风格之争，形式与内容之争等一直困扰学界的问题；有助于解决结构主义批评善于发现文本内在秩序和模式却无法阐释效果，印象批评能内省直觉效果却不会建立文本结构和效果之间的联系的矛盾；有助于克服诗学“二元论”与“科技妄想症”，为当下“认知转向”提供理论资源。从现实来说，古希腊是西方文明源头之一，德米特里是希腊化关键人物，对其诗学研究有助于从源头加深对西方诗学乃至西方文明的理解，有助于中西古典诗学比较与交流，有助于中国学者在国际古典学术和诗学交流中知己知彼，建立话语权。
由于德米特里诗学在中国从未有研究，甚至还未翻译，以及现代人对古典著作理解起来的难度，所以本文首要研究目标是“敞开”，把德米特里诗学敞开看——是什么，如何；从材料和语言出发，发现德米特里诗学内在逻辑，并将其呈现出来；基于学术史做适当、合理的批评，完整敞开德米特里诗学的潜能，让读者明白其价值和意义。力争同情之理解，不做过度阐释，但力求充分。这部分主要是对德米特里诗学的内部分析。
其次，探究德米特里的诗学所考察的对象、范围，德米特里的诗学产生机缘，德米特里的诗学来源和影响；回答德米特里诗学为何是这样的面貌，以及德米特里诗学可以何为。这部分是对德米特里诗学的外部研究。
研究在内外两个向度上展开，内部解剖、分析其诗学系统怎样构建而成，以及怎样在体验的基础上建立文本肌理与审美反应效果之间的联系；外部论述其诗学产生的机缘、影响，与“彼岸诗学”的异质性。内部分析是外部比较的基础，比较是分析的扩展、补充和凸显。德米特里诗学的已有研究是本书研究的基础，其不足和争论是本书的起点，时代的需要是本书研究的动力，跨文化研究是本书的视野。力争为古典学术、形式主义、语言学诗学及文体学、风格学等的研究添砖加瓦。
德米特里诗学首先构建了一个语言学诗学系统。这个系统是以句为对象，探讨了诗学的语言构成，语音、语义、语汇、语句、语用、语效等。在语言学诗学探讨的基础上，进一步考察了句的风格学诗学，风格的生成及风格学系统的建立。一方面德米特里试图构建科学的言说方式，另一方面神话诗学才是他诗学真正的底蕴，是他诗学的最高级形式，神话与诗学不仅同源而且同构。
德米特里诗学不仅是一种诗学，也是一种哲学，这种哲学深深植根于古希腊。不仅如此，他的诗学资源也来源于古希腊的言说，是古希腊学术发展的结果，所以是古希腊学术的总结者。同时他也是启下者，他的学术和思想开启了一个新的时代，乃至19世纪学科的独立和崛起都受到深刻的影响。
研究共分五部分。第一章到第四章是内部探索。第一、二、三章是德米特里诗学的考察：第一、二章是理性诗学；第三章是神话学诗学，既是与理性诗学相对的一种非理性诗学，又是对诗学的非理性掘进。第四章诗学的哲学，是对其诗学的形而上思考。第五章诗学关系学，是外部考察，探讨其诗学来源和影响，也是对德米特里诗学为何讨论这些问题，为何如此结构，为何以这面貌出现的原因的探索。
