圣诞节(Christmas)和感恩节(Thanksgiving Day)
对美国人来说,圣诞节和感恩节是两个重要的节日,今天我们就一起来了解一下这两个节日吧。
一、圣诞节
圣诞节是每年的12月25日。
红色与白色相映成趣的是圣诞老人(Santa Claus),他是圣诞节活动中最受欢迎的人物。西方国家的儿童在睡觉之前,会在壁炉前或床头放上一只袜子,等候圣诞老人在他们入睡后把礼物放在袜子里。在西方国家,圣诞节时扮演圣诞老人也是一种习俗。
二、感恩节
感恩节是北美洲独有的节日,始于1621 年。最初是流亡美国的清教徒为了感谢在危难之时帮助、支援过他们的印第安人,同时也感谢上帝对他们的“恩赐”,将猎获的火鸡(turkey)制成美味佳肴,盛情款待印第安人。于是,感恩节吃火鸡的习俗便流传了下来。这就是感恩节的由来。1863年,美国总统林肯将它定为美国各州的共同节日。1941年12月26日,罗斯福总统签署国会决议,将每年11月的第4个星期四定为美国的感恩节。感恩节有4天假期。借着长假,很多人都会赶回家庆祝佳节。
